Betty LaDuke
Featured artist in Volume3 Issue 1

Tree of Life Harvest Rythms

Betty LaDuke is one of the most dynamic and relevant artists of the late twentieth century living and working in North America today. Her vision encompasses both traditional and ever-changing life styles in many non-western countries throughout the world. Her quest for the real truth of life has taken her from Mexico to Borneo and from Africa to Papua New Guinea.

An upbeat, contemporary view of African life emerges in Betty LaDuke's paintings, drawings and etchings inspired by ten years of travel in Africa. Her experiences with village life, artist cooperatives and artists have inspired her images, a composite of myth, magic and reality. She transforms rites of passage and daily life experiences into vibrant colorful rhythms that capture the essences of Africa's rich and diverse cultures and traditions.

Betty resides in Ashland Oregon, where she teaches at Southern Oregon State College. LaDuke is the author of several books, including :

Africa Through the Eyes of Women Artists
Women Artists: Multicultural Visions
Africa: Women's Art, Women's Lives
Women Against Hunger: A Sketchbook Journey
